A proper e-bike test ride is not a lap of a car park — it is your chance to feel assistance, handling and fit on the roads you will actually ride. Here is what happens when you book with e-Bike Barn, what to bring, and how to get the most from an hour in the Chilterns.
Before you arrive
- Tell us who is riding — height, experience and whether a partner or child seat matters helps us prep the right models
- Shortlist two or three bikes — cargo vs touring vs urban; we will confirm what is in stock
- Bring a helmet if you have one (we can lend one if not)
- Allow 60–90 minutes for a relaxed compare — rushing defeats the point
On the day
We depart from our Satwell showroom on quiet lanes — real gradients, junctions and surfaces rather than a smooth car park loop. You will try each bike long enough to shift modes, brake confidently and notice how weight and geometry feel.
We explain Bosch support levels, walk assist on cargo models, and any display or app features fitted to that bike. Ask anything — that is what the ride is for.
What to compare on each bike
Step-on & reach
Can you mount confidently at the kerb? Step-through vs diamond frame makes a bigger difference than many expect.
Assistance feel
Try Eco and Tour at minimum — does power arrive smoothly? Cargo bikes should pull away calmly when laden.
Braking & stability
On cargo and touring models, test a gentle downhill brake. ABS-equipped Bosch bikes feel different under hard braking — we can demonstrate.
Will it fit your life?
Parking space, lift weight, child seat compatibility — bring measurements or photos if helpful.
After the ride
We will talk through pricing, delivery options, cycle schemes, accessories and lead times — including custom R&M builds. No pressure to decide on the day; many customers book a second ride with the family onboard.
