How cycle to work schemes work
Your employer partners with a scheme provider. You choose an e-bike and accessories; repay through salary sacrifice over an agreed term (often 12–18 months). Because payments come from gross salary, you save income tax and National Insurance on that portion — the effective discount depends on your tax band.
Can you use it for an e-bike?
Yes — modern schemes cover e-bikes, and many explicitly welcome cargo and family models. There is usually a maximum value cap per provider; premium Riese & Müller, Tern and GoCycle bikes often sit above basic scheme limits, so check your employer’s chosen provider and any top-up rules.
