Who are Riese and Muller?

Riese and Muller was born in 1988 when Markus Riese and Heiko Muller met on their first day of their mechanical engineering degree in Darmstadt. On a cycling tour to Tunisia, they agreed they both wanted to change the future of bikes. Their first bike was a revolutionary folding bike where the pivot points acted as suspension. It was called the Birdy and within a year, it had won the prestigious Hesse Innovation Award in 1993.

Spurred on by their recent success, they entered the bike market with Birdy as Riese and Muller. A huge success across the USA and Japan, the Birdy was a favourite among commuters and cycling tourists took it all over the world, from Nepal to the Antarctic. With the addition of two new models, the company’s reputation amongst customers who valued comfort, durability and a distinctive design grew rapidly.

In 2008, Markus and Heiko took a huge risk and decided to move to exclusively to producing e-bikes. They set goals for all their models to meet: lightweight, excellent comfort, visual integration of the drive and battery and high performing components. The full model range was converted into e-bikes and a Riese and Muller looked to expand the range with models capable of replacing cars including the Nevo and Charger for commuting and Packster and Load for cargo.

Today, Riese and Muller’s continued commitment to the 'mobility revolution' has helped them become a market leader in the premium e-bike sector. They set up a state of the art campus in Germany where all of their bikes are custom built and new mobility and sustainability solutions are tried and tested. Their bikes are equipped with some of the highest performing components and continue to win design and innovation awards every year.
